Introduction: The thyroid is generally resistant to infections due to its encapsulated location, high iodine concentration, hydrogen peroxide production, and high levels of blood and lymphoid circulation therefore acute suppurative thyroiditis is rarely seen. The most common agents are Staphilococcus and Streptococcus.
